Indoor Air Quality.
Modern Raleigh homes are built tightly sealed to maximize energy efficiency. While this prevents thermal loss, it effectively traps volatile organic compounds (VOCs), pathogens, and high humidity indoors. The air inside your home is often 2 to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air. At HVAC Service Raleigh, we don't just sell humidifiers; we engineer comprehensive, hospital-grade respiratory environments.
The Danger of Standard 1-Inch Filters.
The standard 1-inch fiberglass filter found in most homes was never designed to clean the air you breathe. Its sole purpose is to stop boulders of dust from destroying the blower motor. Microscopic particles—pollen, pet dander, mold spores, and viruses—pass right through it.
Conversely, installing a highly restrictive 1-inch "allergen" filter will choke your system's airflow, driving up static pressure, burning out the ECM motor, and causing the evaporator coil to freeze solid.
Our Engineering Solutions.
We approach IAQ through three distinct scientific vectors: Filtration, Sterilization, and Humidity Management.
1. High-MERV Media Filtration (Particle Capture)
We retrofit your ductwork to accommodate 4-inch or 5-inch thick pleated media cabinets (MERV 11 to MERV 16). Because these filters have massively increased surface area via deep pleating, they capture sub-micron particles (smoke, bacteria, allergens) with near-zero restriction on the system's airflow. They only require changing every 6 to 12 months.
2. UV-C Germicidal Irradiation (Pathogen Destruction)
The dark, damp environment of an evaporator coil is the perfect petri dish for biological growth. We install high-output UV-C lamps directly over the coil. UV-C light scrambles the DNA of mold, viruses, and bacteria, rendering them sterile and preventing them from colonizing the ductwork and being distributed throughout your home.
3. Active Air Purification (VOC Neutralization)
For odors, chemical off-gassing (VOCs from carpets and paint), and airborne pathogens, passive filters are insufficient. We install active air scrubbers utilizing photohydroionization (PHI) technology. These devices release safe oxidizers into the living space, actively seeking out and neutralizing contaminants in the air and on surfaces.
Whole-Home Humidity Control.
In North Carolina, humidity is a major vector for discomfort and property damage. Relative humidity above 60% breeds mold and dust mites; below 30% causes respiratory irritation and cracked hardwood floors. We integrate whole-home bypass or steam humidifiers for dry winters, and utilize variable-speed AC communication to maximize latent heat (humidity) removal during sticky Raleigh summers.
